Producers
Producers are very important to the food web because they are the ones that start it all. Producers start the food web by using a process called photosynthesis. This process happens in the green part of the plant or fruit where chlorophyll is located. Chlorophyll is a chemical that makes a plant look green it is used in the photosynthesis process. When the sun shines through the leaves and hits the chlorophyll the plant takes water molecules and molecules of carbon dioxide and produces a substance called glucose (sugar). Then the plant turns the sugar into a starch and many other types of energy. Thats how the energy is created from a plant, the plants use that energy for food.During the photosynthesis process oxygen is also created.
AN AMAZON ADVENTURE--PLANTS--BREADFRUIT	Name of Plant:Bread fruit Tree Description:The bread fruit tree is an Evergreeen tree with unusual photato like fruit on it. The fruit can weigh up to 1-10 pounds when ripe. The leaves are very large and have deep cuts in them.   Uses of Plant (consumption/medicinal) When the fruit is cut opened the fruit juce can be used fo making boats and can also be used for a treatment called rheumatism. The fruit can also be used for for diabetes, burns and to treat gouts.
Name of Plant: Banana Description of Plant: The banana grows on a tree at about a height of 15-20 feet and the leaves grow up to 6 feet in length. The bananas grow in clusters and the tips grow upwards.   Uses of Plant (consumption/medicinal): The banana does not have any medical uses but does contain a large amount of potasium. the banana is mostly used to be eaten and is exported through out the world from South America. AN AMAZON ADVENTURE--PLANTS--VANILLA	Name of Plant:vanilla plant Description of Plant: The vanilla belongs to the orchid family and grows up to 60-100 feet. The leaves are around 8-9 inches and grow aternatly along the stem. It produces aplant called vanila and is about eight inches long and takes around 9 months to mature.   Uses of Plant (consumption/medicinal):The vanilla plant is used for cooking through out the world and does not come with an oder at first . It has to go through a drying process to finnally acheive its oder. There has also been a new immataion invented.
