Starting
With The Survey:
It
was important for students to begin the second year of this
project by answering the survey
part of the questionaire. Most of my current students were
unaware of the survey and therefore were not influenced by
the opinions of others.
I
had students graph
their survey results and discuss possible reasons why they
responded the way they did. They also compared their answers
with the answers of my previous students, which were remarkably
similar. I then showed them the survey
results we received from the scientists and discussed
the possible reasons why the scientists responded the way
they did. The discussions we had regarding the scientists'
responses reinforced the aspects and nature of science, the
central point of a unit I teach in the beginning of the year.
These
discussions helped launch the activities I wanted to do for
year two.
