The "Are We Alone?" project utilized Internet technology to enhance student understanding. The technical structure of this project could be expanded to incorporate any subject area. Listed below are necessities for running an Internet project that requires form data.

Project Requirements

Web Design

  • Access to a web authoring program.
  • Basic understanding of web page design. You can create a good looking web site without advanced web design knowledge.
  • An understanding of form commands and form variables. Understanding forms is not very difficult and your school's computer/tech teacher can probably help you with this.

Server

  • Your web site must be on a server that can be accessed via the Internet.
  • Your server must have CGI capabilities or Front Page Server Extensions. Without either one you can not process form data.
  • If you are not using Front Page you must have a CGI program that will process forms. There are many free CGI programs that can be downloaded from the Internet.

Email

  • Ability to create a mailing list.
