Food Chains: The food chain is when a really small insect or animal eats a plant or insect and then a bigger animal eat him and a bigger animal eats him and so on and so on example if a mouse eats a plant the energy transvers from the plant to the mouse and then a snake eats the mouse the energy goes from the mouse to the snake and then after that the hawk will eat the snake and the energy from the snake travels to the hawk.

Food Webs:
All living things require energy to carry out their life activities. It is needed for various chemical reactions that occur in cells, movement, transporting certain molecules across the cell membrane. Without a constant input of energy, an organism will die. Food is the source of energy for living things. It is produced in autotrophs and flows among the organisms in an ecosystem. The main source of energy in an ecosystem is the sun. The sun's energy is capture by producers during photosynthesis. We can think of the sun's energy being trapped in the bonds of sugar molecules. Energy flows between organisms when one organism eats another. A food chain is a model that shows how matter and energy move through an ecosystem. Food chains start with a producer, proceed to consumers and finally to decomposers. Both nutrients and energy are passed from one level to the next. The various feeding levels in a food chain are called trophic levels. In a field grass is eaten by mice that are eaten by owls. This represents a food chain with 3 trophic levels.

grass ---->mouse-----> owl

TROPHIC LEVELS:

1st    producers

2nd    primary consumer    herbivore

3rd secondary consumer carnivore that eats a herbivore

4th tertiary consumer carnivore that eats a carnivore

In the example above:

1st         grass

2nd         mouse

3rd         owl
