Carnivores of the Amazon Rainforest
Carnivores are at the top of the food chain. Carnivores are meat eaters. They hunt herbivores and other carnivores for food. Some carnivores are jaguars, anacondas, ocelots, tigers, and lions. All these animals eat meat. Here are some carnivores that live in the Amazon rainforest.

Name: Jaguar
Description: Jaguars can live up to 22 years and 73 inches long. Males can weigh up to 250 pounds and the females can weigh up to 150 pounds. They are the world's 3rd largest cat.
Habitat: Their habitat is Central and South America and South Western United States. Jaguars live in dense tropical rainforests ands wamps.
Diet: They eat grown animals, fish, cattle, turtles, and small alligators. Jaguars love meat and will eat almost anything.

Name: Anaconda
Description: Anacondas can weigh about 200-300 pounds and can grow to be over 30 feet long. They constrict their prey. An anacondas life span is about 25-50 years.
Habitat: Anacondas live in Northern South America and parts of the Amazon rainforest in marshes, brushes, swamps, and the understory layer of the rainforest.
Diet: Anacondas eat birds, frogs, turtles, alligators, and other small mammals.

Name: Ocelot
Description: Ocelots can grow to 30-41 inches long and weigh 15-30 pounds. The ocelot is a nocturnal animal. They are good swimmers and fast runners.
Habitat: The ocelot's habitat is from Texas to South America. They live in bushlands, forest, and understory of the rainforest.
Diet: Ocelots eat birds, rodents, and small mammals.
