| The
Destruction of the Amazon Rainforest: |
| The
rainforests of the world are being destroyed at
an amazing rate. In the early 1990s rainforests
were being destroyed at approximently 70 acres a
minute or 35 million acres a year. That is about
as large as the state of Wisconsin. Some plant
and animal species are becoming extinct or
endangered because of the deforistation. |

| Efforts
to Conserve The Amazon Rainforest: |
| One
of the major ways of protecting the rainforest is
to make some of the rainforest national parks and
preserves. This means it's illegal to kill the
animals living within these preserves. Some large
companies have started a campaign hoping that
every country will preserve 10% of their forests.
Some countries only log trees that will not
affect the ecosystem as much as some others. |
