South America:
South America is home to one of the biggest tropical rainforests in the world called the Amazon Rainforest. The major mountain range in South America is the Andes and the major river in South America is the Amazon River. South America is the fourth largest continent in the world. South America has 13 countries including Brazil, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Columbia, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile. There are many different regions in South America including the Pampas, Patagonia, Altiplano, Atacama Desert, and Selvas. The Amazon Rainforest is located in the Selvas region of South America.
The Amazon Rainforest:
The Amazon Rainforest is located in South America. It is home to over one-third of the world's animal population. The Amazon Rainforest spans over 2.5 million square miles and is located in parts of Brazil, Columbia, Guyana, Suriname, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, French Guiana, and Venezuela. The Amazon Rainforest gets 4 feet more rain than Maine every year. Twenty percent of the world's oxygen is produced by the Amazon Rainforest. The flooding in the Amazon is caused by snowmelt and rain. The Amazon Rainforest is in danger of being destroyed by many things such as expansion of agriculture, exploitation of wood, gold mining, and the building of a hydroelectric power station.
