A herbivore is an animal who does not eat meat. They are in the middle of the food chain. Herbivores eat the plants and then are eaten by carnivores who are at the top of the food chain. That is the food chain in the Amazon Rainforest.

Name: Howler Monkey
Description:

The Howler Monkeys is about 2-3 feet in length and weighs about 15 pounds. The males are usually larger than the females. Their colors can vary from reddish to brownish to blackish.

Habitat: Central and South American Rainforests.

Diet:

Fruits and nuts.

 

Predators:

Jaguar and other large mammals. Large snakes and humans.

 


Name: Great Curassow
Description: The males are mostly black and the females are a brownish and rust colored. The females also have a crest with black and white markings.
Habitat: Rainforests in Central and Northern South America.
Diet: Fruits, leaves, nuts, berries, and flowers.
Predators: Humans, larger mammals, and snakes.

Name: Capypara
Description: They are about the size of a full grown dog. They are about 3-4 feet long and weigh between 60-170 pounds.
Habitat: Amazon Rainforest. Panama and parts of the Andes Mountains, Columbia, Uruguay, and Argentina. They live near water.
Diet: Water plants, grass, and tree bark.
Predators: Puma, jaguar, and caiman.
