South America:
South America is located in the southwestern hemesphere. It has the worlds longest mountain range the Andes. It has rain forests and deserts. in Arica, Chile it didnt rain for 14 years, the longest dry period ever! There are 13 countries in South America. The bodies of water that border are the Atlatic Ocean the Pacific Ocean, and the Caribbean sea. The amazon river is the second longest river in the world. Lake Titicaca is the highest lake used for transportaton in the world. The area of South America we are focusing on in this project is the Amazon rainforests.
The Amazon Rainforest:
The Amazon rainforests are tropical forests that recieve 4 feet more rainfall annually than Maine. The Amazon covers 2.5 million square miles of South America. 1/3 of the worlds animal population lives and reproduces in the Amazon. The rainforest is located in Bolivia, Peru, Equador, Venezuala, Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana, and Brazil.
