The Destruction of the Amazon Rainforest:

The rain forest supplies most of the world's oxygen because the leaves take in the carbon dioxide and let out clean oxygen. People won't realize the harm they are doing to this lush world of plants and animals until it's too late. Most destroyed rain forests become deserts because there are no trees to hold the water or nutrients. Terrible erosion occurs. Every year people destroy more than 1000 acres. Flooding is another serious thing that can happen if you lived in or near a rain forest. If it ever rained again after the rain forest was destroyed, water would flood into your house because there are no plants or trees to hold the water. Mining is another danger to the rain forest since beneath that mossy ground lies precious materials like iron, gold, copper and even bauxite. Don't destroy the rain forest because in that world of mystery may lie our history and future!
Efforts to Conserve The Amazon Rainforest:
Did you know that some governments are trying to help save the Rain Forest? Some governments are asking banks not to loan money to projects involving development of the rain forest. Some banks are looking for projects to put together to save the rain forest. People have risked getting arrested by repeatedly blocking logged roads. Governments and other organizations have set aside land in the Rain Forest as a protected "zone." Only native animals and plants can live within these zones. People are not allowed to settle in these areas. What would you do to help save the Rain Forest? I would write letters to goverments. In the letter I would tell how important the rain forest is to me. I will also draw posters to make people help out. NO FOREST NO FUTURE!
