What Can You Do to Protect the Rainforest?
The Destruction of the Amazon Rainforest:
The rainforest is currently being destroyed for reasons of breeding animals for fast food restaurants, gold mining for jewelry, a hydroelectric power station to get more electricity, to get wood for buildings, and generally to get money. The Rainforest once covered 14% of the world, but a lot of rainforest has been destroyed already. Now the rainforest covers only 6% of Earth.
Efforts to Conserve The Amazon Rainforest:
Right now, many efforts are being made to protect the rainforest. You can buy rainforest from Fundesin. For $25 dollars you get one acre of rainforest that can't be destroyed by the people deforesting it. For more information on that program, click on the Fundesin link below. Fundesin is also providing chocolate to sell to support other rainforest conservation programs. The Rainforest Facts link will bring you to a site that has tons of information about the rainforests resources and what is happening to the Amazon. One way we can try to protect the rainforest is by educating people about it to get them to help conserve it. You can e-mail almost all of these sites for more information.
